Hi Carol Gurr. Thanks for your note. Yep I live in Salisbury - I am now a doting Grandmother to a lovely little boy Jack. I can't believe it but loving every minute of it. Hope you are well. If you come down from Edinburgh then get in touch and we can meet up (I don't do the school reunions anymore). My sister lives in Kirkcaldy and I go up once a year. Regards Gibby

Dear Virginia, along with everyone else i was saddened to hear of the passing of your mum and dad, ever since i left in 77 i always think of your dad at christmas, i dont know how it affected the others in marlborough but the memory of your dad lighting the candles hanging outside your flat are as fresh as ever, first sunday in december candle 1 was lit, second sunday candle 1&2 and so on, we never got to see all the candles as we were all home with our parents by the end of the month, stange how little things stay with us forever, regards gez

The Flood happened in December 1960. My father was the bursar of the boy’s school at the time and worked his rear end off to get some five hundred pupils sent home immediately. The heating system was on the point of closing down as the flood waters were rising in the boiler room. Meanwhile, myself and three or four other teenage boys who lived in Hamm and were about to take O-levels managed to get transferred to the girl’s school for a fortnight or so. Oh bliss!
